Trattoria Lucana, Matera

Another perfect, lovely, delicious, unforgettable dinner in Trattoria Lucana in Matera, Italy.

I had the honor to get my picture taken (from the left) with my waiter Paolo, chef Gigi and the matron (whose name I unfortunately was not told). Paolo, whom greeted me on the street earlier, told that he loves to work with Gigi and the matron. No wonder, as the trattoria has relaxed but efficient atmosphere, full of joy and respect for everyone, personnel and customers alike.

For dinner I have stuffed eggplants and anchovy-capers-tomato spaghetti. The eggplants were merciful and mild. The spaghetti was a holy combination of flavors. I have to admit I let out a sigh of enjoyment when I tasted the spaghetti. It was perfect.

Drinks then: lightly sparkling wine with rays of sun. Grappa with so delicate fruit notes and very harmonious bite of yeasts, one of the best grappas ever.

The restaurant was full of when I stepped in at 20:30, customers chatting lively. When the dishes arrived, silence descended. Then, after a 30 minutes, everyone took a bit more comfortable sitting position. The discussion became slower, but satisfied laughter became more frequent. By 21:45 when I left, the restaurant was almost empty. The party was over, and everyone was, and I am sure still is, happy.

Please, pay Trattoria Lucana a visit if you ever happen to find yourself in Matera. You will gain happiness and full stomach.
