Viides ajopäivä ja ensimmäinen leima

17.5.2022, tiistai · Babberich → Nijmegen → Baarle-Nassau

Viides ajopäivä. Saan alkumatkaksi seuraa ystävästäni Jubbesta. Pyöräilemme yhdessä Nijmegeniin, yritämme saada ensimmäisen leiman pyhiinvaelluspassiini pienen kappelin talonmieheltä. Passiin, josta kerron myöhemmin lisää, on tarkoitus kerätä leimoja matkan varrelta kirkoista, hotelleista, turisti- infoista. Lopuksi perillä riittävä määrä leimoja oikeuttaa sertifikaattiin pyhiinvaelluksen suorittamisesta. Hauska peli ja leikki.

Nijmegenistä jatkan matkaa yksin. Seuraava yöpyminen Baarle-Nassausss, joka on pieni belgialainen kaupunki Hollannissa.

Konsultit muistavat aina kertoa kuinka tärkeää on siirtyä epämukavuusalueelle. Sitten kuulemma oppii uutta ja saa paljon rahaa ja mammonaa ja mainetta. Täytyy todeta, että pyörämatkaileminen yksin on minulle epämukavuusalueen ytimessä. Tässä hommassa on jotain pelottavaa ja huolestuttavaa. Junamatkailu on ihan eri asia, ei pelota lainkaan.

Päivän polkaisu 114km navigaattorin mukaan. Sää on hyvä, tuuli heikko ja vastainen.

Walking from the Netherlands to Belgium and back sevaral times. The border is in the middle of a town.

Baarle-Nassau is in the Netherlands. There are Belgian enclaves within Baarle-Nassau, thus Belgium in the Netherlands. And some parts of Belgium inside the Netherlands contain enclaves of the Netherlands. Funny. Check Wikipedia for good historical explanation.

An easy ride to Baarle-Nassau. Jubbe joined me until Nijmegen and helped me to get the first stamp (see another update later). After Nijmegen, I really enjoyed the Dutch cycling infrastructure. For a long time I rode the F59 cycling highway. It is really a highway, passing city centers, enjoying right of way and having few intersections. Really, really comfortable and fast, I managed ride 25-27km/h for kilometers and kilometers. The only downside is the almost total lack of cafes. Sometimes the cycling highway is next to a car highway and the one can visit gas stations for food and water.

Yesterday Niko, who gave me the official stamp collecting of Santiago pilgrims, told me that when riding alone to Santiago, one has time to think. He especially recommended thinking about one’s past and hopes/wishes for the future.

I tried to think about those things. But no thoughts came. I was and am still too much worried about or perplexed with issues related to tour. Maybe after few weeks my tour has more routines and I will find it easier to think deeper and longer thoughts.

But some routines exist already: check in the hotel, taking shower, doing laundry, reserving the next hotel, drawing a route to the hotel and having dinner. Altogether these things take 2 hours.

Today’s ride: 123km, 5h45, 21.3km/h, average temperature 18C, max temperature 28, and 4.5 liters water.
