Stage 3a: rest day in Petershagen
When I set out for my my virtual (fantasy) cycling tour to Girona, I decided to devote Mondays to rest. From experience, I know I can cycle for 6 days in a row, not more. Every cycling days increases cumulative fatigue, and only rest days clear it.
So, today I spent resting in Petershagen, of all places. I could have pushed further, maybe 30 kilometers to Bad Oyenhausen for a nice rest in a spa, with massage and everything. Spas are common in Germany, since long time ago, from the 19th century when they were an important part of healthy way of life. As was naturalismus, or nudism, freeing the body to the elements, bathing naked.
Last year, 2019, we happened to cycle to the Teufelsee by accident. It was the first nudist colony in Germany for me. Quite a place, a small lake in a forest with hundreds of naked people of all ages and shapes. Liberating, although I did shy away and did not join the healthy fun.
So, no spa or naked bathing today either. Insteasd, I visited the local museum of industrial culture, LWL Industriemuseum. It is part of 8 museums of industrial culture in Rurhgebiet, the industrial hearth land of Germany. The museums are connected by a bike route. A pity I do not have time to visit all the museums.
The museum had an interesting exhibition of glass art by the Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva. Quite a surpise, but really worth a visit.
In the evening, I had dinner at Zum Stillen Winkel. I had chicken once again as they did not serve any vegetarian food.
Tomorrow, the stage 4 will take me (virtually, of course) to Augustdorf. It will be a very nice 70 km ride by the river Weser and through some forests.
